BCM Upgrade

There's never a good time to upgrade the software of a Telephone system but none the less it was time, we had hoped (rather than expected) it would all run smoothly but as expected it didn't go so good, from the off the odds where stacked against us, what with corrupt upgrade software leading to issues with the system hard drive you could sense that it was going to be a 'freaky friday' and it didn't disappoint.
First up we lost our Voicemail service and IP Telephony service (thankfully we only use a few VoIP handsets thus far), normal Telephony service was running as normal but a fault with the ipView Console left reception with a slighltly more difficult task than normal coupled with explaining to callers that they couldn't leave voicemail for staff at the present time.
The HDD of the system has developed a fault and after a few telephone calls
the engineer had to drive to Dublin to pick up the part (even though it was at the n'abbey nortel site, absolute madness but a story for another day).
Late Friday we finally got the system upgraded and first thing Monday morning the latest release of ipView Console was installed at reception. After the xmas break we will be implementing several new features of the telephone system.
(a few) What’s new in BCM 4.0
- Remote access for home users (your extenion number at home)
- Operating system: A Linux OS replaces Windows NT
- Element Manager replaces Unified Manager as the primary BCM management tool.
- Keycode functionality: You no longer require a keycode for each feature; you now require only one keycode to enable software features on the BCM 4.0 system. The single keycode is generated from multiple feature selections using the Nortel keycode retrieval system (KRS).
- USB support: BCM 4.0 adds support for USB ports on the BCM200/400 systems (not supported on BCM1000). This support includes file loading and UPS connection through the USB port.
- UPS support over USB: UPS connectivity through the USB port is supported in BCM 4.0 for the BCM200/400 system for graceful shutdown (not supported on BCM1000).
